About Veronica
Veronica Clements is a Chicago-based artist and curator. She graduated from the University of Illinois in 2018 with a BFA in Painting and Art History and received her Master’s of Science in Leadership for Creative Enterprises from Northwestern University in 2023. Clements is the Chair of the Young Women’s Caucus for Art and serves as a strategic partner for Woman Made Gallery.
Most recently, Veronica curated ‘Our Delicate Armor’ at Stasia’s Gallery, a group show featuring 6 Chicago-based femme artists. The exhibition explored the conflicting societal expectations of women and the juxtaposition between being both fragile and tough at the same time.
“I see my work existing at the intersection of critique and celebration, where the vibrancy of girlhood collides with the fleeting nature of life. Through a visual language rooted in pop culture, nostalgia, and vanitas symbolism, I explore the delicate balance and tension between love and grief, particularly within the feminine experience. Just as an oyster encases an irritant to form a pearl, I consider the ways in which mothers, daughters, and women at large absorb pain, transforming it into something precious yet heavy.
My paintings are curiosity cabinets—collections of objects, symbols, and memories that speak to the transitions of girlhood to womanhood to motherhood, and the inevitable complexities of those evolutions. The objects I paint–pearls, butterflies, rain droplets on a window–become artifacts of intimacy, relics of tenderness and loss.”
