About Us

The Young Women’s Caucus for Art (YWC) is a sub-caucus of the National Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA), a non-profit organization. The Women’s Caucus for Art was founded in 1972 in connection with the College Art Association (CAA). WCA is a national member organization unique in its multidisciplinary, multicultural membership of artists, art historians, students, educators, and museum professionals.

As a founding member of the Feminist Art Project (TFAP), WCA is part of a collaborative national initiative celebrating the Feminist Art Movement and the aesthetic, intellectual, and political impact of women on the visual arts, art history, and art practice, past and present.

The Young Women’s Caucus is open to any femme identifying person in the U.S. who deems themselves as an “emerging artist” or as “young at heart.” We do not have a specific age or gender limit on membership.

The YWC currently has over 50 members throughout the United States.

our mission

We are committed to building a national network of emerging women artists, providing them with the tools, connections, and space needed to support each other and amplify the power of feminist art.

vision

YWC’s vision for the future is to create a vibrant and inclusive artistic landscape where emerging women artists amplify their voices and impact through a powerful, supportive network.

To cultivate a network of women artists who actively redefine the art canon, rejecting exclusionary practices and reclaiming their rightful place in the history and future of art.

why you should join a feminist arts organization

empowerment & visibility

Feminist arts organizations prioritize giving women artists a platform, promoting visibility for their work in an industry historically dominated by male perspectives. By joining, you gain access to networks that amplify your voice and artwork, helping to ensure your contributions aren’t overlooked but celebrated.

opportunities for growth & networking

Feminist arts organizations provide spaces for engagement, critique, and mentorship, fostering professional and personal growth. Additional resources and advocacy grant you exclusive opportunities and resources designed to help women artists thrive and navigate challenges in the art world. Hearing from diverse perspectives in a safe space improves your art practice.

combating isolation in the digital age

In an increasingly online world, many artists find it difficult to stay connected and supported, often working in isolation. Feminist arts organizations provide both in-person and digital spaces where artists can engage meaningfully. Feminist arts organizations bridge the gap between online isolation and genuine connection, fostering spaces—virtual and physical—where artists can find support, feedback, and community amidst the impersonal nature of the digital world.

understanding the context in which you create art

Feminist arts organizations have a long history of pushing boundaries and making sure women artists are represented in the arts. By joining, you contribute to sustaining and advancing that legacy. By understanding the history of women artists that came before you, you better situate yourself to understanding and expanding your own art practice.

creating cultural and social change

Feminist arts organizations don’t just benefit their members—they impact society by using art to spark important conversations around gender, equity, and social justice.
